Multilateral Networks

The GCSC takes part in various multilateral networks that provide PhD students with further possibilities to participate in academic events such as summer schools and international conferences. These networks offer a great variety of different forums for presenting work in progress and receiving feedback from international scholars.

HERMES

HERMES is a European network of scholars working in the field of Literary, Aesthetic and Cultural Studies. The network is particularly dedicated to offering a research oriented intellectual community where PhD students and senior staff members from all over Europe can engage in debates on currents issues in their particular fields. HERMES therefore organises symposia and seminars where senior and junior scholars meet in order to exchange ideas on current research and to plan new projects.

ESSCS

The European Summer School in Cultural Studies (ESSCS) is a network-based seminar for interdisciplinary research training in the fields of art and culture, organised by the Copenhagen Doctoral School in Cultural Studies, the Amsterdam School of Cultural Analysis, the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture at the University of Giessen, the London Consortium, and the University of Oslo. The summer school sessions are hosted alternately by the partner institutions. The next two sessions will take place in Copenhagen (2009) and London (2010).

  • London Consortium (= Collaboration between the Architectural Association, School of Architecture, Birkbeck College (University of London), the Institute of Contemporary Arts and TATE (Great Britain / London)
  • The Norwegian Doctoral School in Cultural Studies (Norway / Oslo, Trondheim)

European Thematic Network ACUME2

Over 80 European universities are members of this thematic network.

The ACUME2 Network brings together scholars and experts from various European countries in order to encourage a new way of interfacing sciences, literature and the humanities and to work together towards broad curricular innovation. The network is coordinated by the University of Bologna.
