Support at the GCSC

Financial aid for parents at the GCSC/ Finanzielle Unterstützung

Parents with kids under 18 years of age who hold a grant get 400.-€ per month for the first child in addition to the basic support. If you have two children under age you get 500.-€.

Mütter sowie Väter, die als Stipendiat/-in am GCSC promovieren erhalten eine Kindergeldpauschale von 400.-€ pro Monat für das erste Kind. Ab dem zweiten Kind erhöht sich der Betrag um jeweils 100.-€.

Extension of Grants and Memberships/ Stipendien- und Mitgliedschaftserweiterung

We appreciate the time you spend raising a family and do our best to support you. We are happy to extend membership and scholarships for up to one year, amounting to a total of four years. If you are both a parent and employed in the HE sector, please contact us to see if you would be eligible for further extensions, as these can be negotiated on a case-to-case basis.

Wir sind uns der Doppelbelastung promovierender Eltern bewusst und möchten Sie bestmöglich unterstützen. Deshalb verlängern wir sowohl Ihre Mitgliedschaft wie auch Ihr Stipendium bis zu einem Jahr. Falls Sie durch Elternschaft und eine wissenschaftliche Anstellung doppelt belastet sind, greifen für Sie möglicherweise zwei Verlängerungsregelungen. Schreiben Sie uns, wenn diese Mehrfachbelastung betrifft. Ob Sie für eine mehrfache Verlängerung in Frage kommen, entscheiden wir dann nach einem persönlichen Gespräch.

Mentoring/Karriereplanung

Parents have the same needs whatever academic level: Nights without sleep while we comfort our little ones bad dreams or tooth-aches might lead to low energy in the morning. And although you booked a babysitter your child gets ill and you cannot listen to or hold the lecture you planned. Beside the question of money, reliable childcare and time-management are the pivotal moments of being a parent AND scholar. Once you have managed to have some free time to do your research you are confronted with the expectations of your fellow Phd-students or the staff of your department, who express their irritation that you skipped the last meeting and that you hardly ever join them for a beer at night! For this reason established scholars want to share their experiences as parents in German Academia with you as young academics. This might help to get an insight view in the German University system and hopefully assists to cope with its sometimes child unfriendly ways.

Wissenschaftler/-innen mit Kindern haben ganz eigene Probleme und Bedürfnisse, die alle Eltern teilen. Ein Mentoring-Programm, in dem erfolgreiche, promovierte Wissenschafterinnen mit Kindern sowohl innerhalb als auch außerhalb des deutschen Hochschulsystems, soll Ihnen durch persönliche Gespräche helfen, Ihren beruflichen Weg mit ihrer Familie erfolgreich zu beschreiten. Netzwerke mit Wissenschaftlerinnen in derselben Lebenssituation sollen dabei helfen.

Out and about with your kid/ Mit Kind an der Uni

Parents Office/Eltern- Kind-Zimmer
If your child accompanies you to Justus-Liebig-University we will be happy to supply you with a special office equipped for your needs – computer facilities - and your kids needs such as toys and a cradle.

Die kleineren Hilfstätigkeiten des Promovierens lassen sich gut im Beisein von Kindern erledigen. Sollten Sie sich also mit Ihrem Kind an der Universität aufhalten wollen, wird Ihnen im Bürotrakt der Doktorand/-innen des GCSC bald ein eigenes Eltern-Kind-Arbeitszimmer zur Verfügung stehen, wo Sie neben Computer, Scanner und Drucker auch ein Bettchen sowie Spielsachen für unterschiedliche Altersstufen vorfinden werden.

Babysitter in situ
The GCSC helps to organise and finance child-care in the case of large events such as conferences. You are welcome to contact us in advance and please feel free to take your kid along. Please notice: Hiring a babysitter and staying within the premises of Justus-Liebig-University is at the parents' own risk.

Sollten Sie an einer Großveranstaltung des GCSC wie einer Tagung teilnehmen wollen, helfen wir gern bei der Finanzierung und Organisation der Betreuung Ihres Kindes während dieser Zeit. Bitte nehmen Sie rechtzeitig mit uns Kontakt auf und beachten Sie, dass das Risiko der Fremdbetreuung, sowie des Aufenthalts des Babysitters mit dem Kind innerhalb der Justus-Liebig Universität in der Verantwortung der Eltern verbleibt.
