The GCSC is also actively involved in networks regarding doctoral education and research management.
Since 2011, the GCSC is an active member of CHCI. "Established in 1988, the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes serves as a site for the discussion of issues germane to the fostering of crossdisciplinary activity and as a network for the circulation of information and the sharing of resources within the humanities and interpretive social sciences. CHCI has a membership of over 180 centers, institutes, and affiliate organizations in 23 countries."

Since 2010, JLU is an active member of EUA-CDE, giving the GCSC and JLU's other graduate centres the opportunity to contribute their expertise on a European level for the advancement of doctoral education. "The mission of the EUA Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE), an integral part of EUA, is to contribute to the development, advancement and improvement of doctoral education and research training in Europe. EUA-CDE fulfils its mission through the organisation of conferences, training seminars and other events on topics of interest to its members, the commissioning of research and analyses, advocacy, the provision of information and the dissemination of good practice. It also provides policy advice to the Board and Council of EUA on new trends and developments in relation to doctoral programmes and research training in Europe."

Since 2009, the Qualitätszirkel has provided quality control and conceptual advancement for (structured) doctoral programmes and, at the moment, comprises a network of twelve graduate schools, quality-control institutions and organizations that promote young scholars, which represents five different federal states in Germany.
The Qualitätszirkel comments on current questions related to graduate studies, produces publications and holds workshops for graduate-studies advisors. The second edition of a handbook entitled “Shaping a Doctorate Together” is available online and in English (http://www.graduateschools.uni-wuerzburg.de/humanities/info_service/vernetzung_der_gsh/handbuch/). In addition, the Qualitätszirkel offers a questionnaire for graduate-studies advisors, which allows advisors and students to reflect upon and formulate their respective expectations (http://www.uni-trier.de/index.php?id=44041).
